Criteria & Recommendations

There are criteria that operators must meet as part of their MREC (medium rectangle) either in Queensland’s official eNewsletter or on the website. Criteria and recommendations have been provided to strengthen your MREC banner artwork, and maximise click throughs to optimise conversion.

MREC Criteria

  • Provide one (1) Medium Rectangle (MREC) banner advertisement
  • Ad size: 300w x 250h pixels
  • Maximum Ad file size on is 40kb. Larger file sizes may be considered for Queensland eNewsletter
  • Ad format: JPG, GIF or HTML5 (for Google dfp)
  • Ad content: Ad should include an attention grabbing offer, a quality image and a strong call-to-action
  • Terms and Conditions: if terms and conditions apply to the offer and an asterix is to be included on the ad, the asterix should match with wording i.e. 'T&Cs apply' or similar. Alternatively, the Terms and Conditions should be obvious and easy to find via the landing page URL provided
  • URL: a URL must be provided that matches the deal so if a consumer clicks on the ad, they are directed to more detail about the offer, and how to book/claim the offer

MREC Recommendations

1. Offer

  • Create an attention grabbing offer (ideally with an enticing price point)
  • Choose a single unique selling point that makes your deal different, better, or special. E.g. value, convenience or location
  • Try to include a sense of urgency - ‘limited time only’ or ‘exclusive’
  • Keep the offer as simple as possible – the less words the better

2. Image

  • Hero image that shows the business or product
  • Bold, bright images typically perform better
  • Include logo

3. Call to Action

  • Include a call to action e.g. 'Find Out More'

4. Website Landing Page

  • Include the offer on your website that details what the offer is and how to book this deal
  • Include any terms & conditions that apply to the deal e.g. expiry dates or block out dates
  • It is recommended to provide a URL that is able to track your own data 
  • Also it is recommended but not crucial, to have an online booking option as this is an easy way for consumers to book your deal
